Philosophical pursuits
For the majority of my academic career, I studied philosophy to discover what’s good, true, & beautiful - hopefully gaining a bit of wisdom along the way. Like anyone else, I wanted to be a giant in the field rather than stand on the shoulders of giants. But, I soon realized that living by good philosophy was more important to me than doing good philosophy, which led me to re-evaluate what I wanted to do in life.
Research & analysis
Critical thinking
Academic writing
User-centered design
Thankfully, I stumbled into user-centered design & user experience research in a, more or less, roundabout way. At its core, user experience struck me as a ‘bridge’ that connected people to their goals while aiming to be the most effective, efficient, and enjoyable experience possible.
User research & testing
Product design
Data analysis
Eudaimonic UX design
My hope is that my philosophical background will bring something new to the table by asking the basic, sometimes obvious, questions that show key challenges to improving the user experience for good products.
Journey mapping
Information architecture
Interaction design
Family & hobbies
When I’m not working, my wife & I will usually be out hiking or biking. We love serving our community, looking for new ways to stay fit, and playing board & video games together. She doesn’t share (yet) my passion for mixed martial arts, but hopefully that’ll come soon.
